What Is a Contusion?

5Cartilage Contusion

Cartilage is thick yet flexible tissue in the body. It is softer than bones, but harder than muscles. The tip of our nose and the outer parts of our ears contain cartilage. Cartilage contusions may happen when the cartilage is hit by something or when it bends. In most cases, this type tends to be harmless and will recover soon without the need for treatment. [8]

Eye Contusion

An eye contusion is a dark or blue mark around or on the eye. When it occurs on the eyelid, you may notice swelling and feel pain. Nevertheless, this type tends to be harmless. In some cases, you would have a contusion on the cornea, which is the eye’s tissue. It is important to seek medical attention as it would be more severe, particularly when other eye injuries are present or if left untreated. [9]
