9Monocytes in Leukemia
In some cases, the cells that allow monocytes to develop might become disordered and grow uncontrollably. Acute monocytic leukemia is a type of acute myelogenous leukemia. This condition tends to cause more than 80 percent of the monocytes to become disordered. In the chronic form, there are high numbers of immature blood cells and monocytes in the blood and bone marrow. [9]
