9Processed Foods
Processed foods often contain a high amount of sodium. In people with an underactive thyroid, the risk of high blood pressure can be higher than others. A high-sodium diet can worsen this effect and make you more susceptible to heart disease. Thus, if you are suffering from hypothyroidism, it is advisable to reduce the intake of sodium to no more than 1,5g on a daily basis. Avoid high-sodium foods, such as hot dogs, sandwiches, ham, salami, cured meat, and other processed meats. [9]
