5Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Progressive supranuclear palsy is a rare brain condition. It occurs when there is damage in the brain’s nerve cells, which causes problems with eye movements, balance, and walking. The condition may worsen with time and result in the inability to control movements and think properly. An accumulation of protein in the brain’s nerve cells is the main cause. Studies have shown that this protein may cause damage to other important proteins.
Typical symptoms of progressive supranuclear palsy include depression, emotional outbursts, memory problems, swallowing and speech issues, vision changes, eye issues, falls, and balance problems. In addition, there are other unique signs that help differentiate it from Parkinson’s disease, such as a lack of severe tremors or shaking, falling backward, and the inability to move the eyes downward or properly.
