4Cortical-Basal Ganglionic Degeneration
Cortical-basal ganglionic degeneration is a neurological condition that causes the brain’s nerve cells to break down with time. This rare disorder mostly affects the regions that are responsible for thinking and body movement. One of the earliest symptoms is difficulty moving one area of the body. Other common signs may include poor coordination, swallowing issues, language or speech problems, muscle spasms, slow movement, slight tremors, and controlled eye movement. These symptoms are progressive, meaning that they will worsen over time. The exact cause is still unclear, but it may be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Cortical-basal ganglionic degeneration cannot be cured, and there is also no treatment to slow the progression. Your doctor may prescribe certain medications and suggest therapies to help manage the symptoms. [4]
