15Lose Weight
Weight loss could considerably reduce the risks of developing prediabetes. Indeed, studies have shown that losing 5% to 10% of the body weight would reduce your chances of this condition up to 50%. It is important to lose weight in a healthy way. Extreme measures such as not eating or unhealthy diets would have negative effects on your levels of blood sugar and worsen the condition. Ideally, a diet for prediabetes should limit junk foods, processed foods, fried foods, refined carbs, and sugar. Add more lean proteins, complex carbs, veggies, and fruits instead. Another effective way to lose weight is to work out and do exercises more frequently. From hiking, swimming and dancing to running, walking or jogging, anything that makes you move and increases your heart rate is good for preventing and treating prediabetes. [15]
