High Cholesterol Effects to Health

6Strokes & Circumferential Arcus

The risk of stroke is significantly determined by the ratio of bad cholesterol to good cholesterol. The risk is higher when you have more LDL cholesterol. The risk is lower when you have more HDL cholesterol. When levels of cholesterol are high in the blood, it may build up on the vessel walls and narrow the arteries. This eventually blocks blood flow to the heart and causes a stroke or heart attack. In addition to some lifestyle and diet changes, you may take some cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as statins, to help reduce the risk of strokes. [6]

The effect of high cholesterol levels can be noticed on your eyes. A condition called circumferential arcus may result in a gray or white discolored arc in the eye. The affected part is the cornea, the transparent outer layer of the eye. You may easily notice these lesions over the white part of the eye since the discoloration is likely to be clearest there.
