High Cholesterol Effects to Health

7Yellow Lumps & Yellow Skin Spots

People with high cholesterol levels may notice some yellow lumps in their tendons of the fingers. They are known as xanthomata. Sometimes, they may show up in other parts of the body, such as elbows, knees, and palms. There are typically many bumps in a few areas at the same time. Keep in mind that this effect only occurs in some syndromes that cause high cholesterol. [8]

In addition to yellow lumps, some skin areas may develop yellow patches. They tend to be related to familial hypercholesterolemia, which is a form of high cholesterol. In general, these yellow spots may not or may be raised off the skin. You often notice them below or above the eye, or even in both areas. This sign indicates that cholesterol is deposited under the skin. [9]
