76 Frontotemporal Dementia Causes
Genetics
While many cases of frontotemporal dementia occur by chance, some genetic factors play a role in a few situations. Around 10 percent of cases would be contributed to a change in a gene. The mutation of this gene is directly inherited, which means that you can be at risk of developing the condition when your father or mother has that particular gene. Around 20 percent to 40 percent of people diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia have a familial association where relatives over two or even more generations have a history of the health issue. The underlying link is still not fully understood. To reduce the risk, you should talk with your doctor and have a genetic test. [7]
