It is estimated that around 20 percent of males will develop benign prostatic hyperplasia as during the 50s. The figure increases by up to 70 percent when they are during their 70s. This can be explained by hormone changes as men age. When you are older, the amount of active testosterone will be reduced in the blood, while levels of estrogen are still the same. This gradual process leads to the growth of prostate cells. Aging also affects the fluctuation of dihydrotestosterone, which can be a major risk factor. [7]
