4Causes of Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Not everyone with acute myeloid leukemia have a known risk factor. Even when they have some risk factors, it can be difficult to know whether these are the main cause of the disease. A few DNA changes in normal cells in the bone marrow may turn them into cancer cells. The DNA in each cell is the building block of our genes, which regulate cell functions. Scientists have found that changes in genes like RAS, c-KIT, and FLT3 are prevalent in acute myeloid leukemia cells. These mutations may prevent bone marrow cells from growing normally and cause them to grow uncontrollably. [5]
