Some known risk factors for the development of acute myeloid leukemia include:

– Gender: The condition is more prevalent in men than in women. The reason is still unknown.

– Aging: Acute myeloid leukemia may happen at any age, but the elderly tends to be more affected.

– Chemical exposures: Being exposed to several chemicals may increase the risk of developing acute myeloid leukemia. Benzene can be a major risk factor. This solvent commonly used in chemical factories, oil refineries, rubber industry, tobacco products, detergents, and more industrial products.
