When acute myeloid leukemia progresses, cancer cells become bigger and get clogged in the blood vessels. More obvious signs may start to occur, depending on the blockage part. These include:
– Sweet’s syndrome: this is a painful skin rash that primarily affects the trunk, legs, head, and arms
– Chloromas: this is a group of cells that would develop into a tumor-like growth, painful bleeding of the gums, or a plaque-like rash
– Abdominal distention: this happens when cells build up in the liver and spleen
– Pulmonary embolism: this condition blocks the artery in the lung
– Deep vein thrombosis: it causes blockage in a vein, normally in the leg
Some other symptoms of acute myeloid leukemia are less common and may affect different parts of the body, such as testicles, eyes, lymph nodes, and kidneys. [4]
