12Saliva and Mucus
When the muscles necessary for voluntary movements are affected, you may begin to experience some difficulty in preventing saliva and mucus from dribbling from the mouth and nose. When these voluntary muscles become weak, several things will be affected in the body, keeping saliva in your mouth is just one of those things that may be affected. Difficulty in breathing can also be experienced as a result of muscle weakness. Symptoms like this are usually noticed in the later stages of ALS. [9]
