8Possible Risks of Using A Ventilator
Using a ventilator might lead to a few side effects, especially in an extended period. A common problem is a possible infection. Germs can penetrate your lungs more easily via the breathing tube. This would increase the risk of pneumonia or sinus infection. Also, this part would rub against your lungs or throat and cause irritation. You can feel harder to cough. When wearing a ventilator, the breathing tube needs to pass through the larynx or voice box, which includes the vocal cords. Therefore, some people might have vocal cord problems. In more serious cases, a ventilator would even cause lung injury due to increased pressure, oxygen toxicity, or air leaks. Other possible risks include blood clots and skin infections.
