8Reduce Caffeine Intake
In pregnancy women, the body metabolizes caffeine in a slower rate. At the same time, this stimulant may penetrate the placenta and affect the normal development of the fetus. Therefore, it is better to reduce your caffeine intake during this period. Avoid consuming more than 200 milligrams caffeine on a daily basis. Otherwise, it may increase the risk of miscarriage. Caffeine can be found in tea, dark chocolate, soda, coffee, and many sports beverages. [9]
Inform Supplements or Medications with your Healthcare Provider
Inform your healthcare provider about any supplements or medications that you are taking. Certain drugs may pass through your placenta during pregnancy and do harm to the fetus. Nevertheless, do not stop taking a medication before consulting your doctor either. Otherwise, you may have severe side effects, especially for antidepressants and similar drugs. Pregnant women should avoid certain painkillers as there may be some possible risks for the baby. [10]
