8Hematology Training
To become a licensed hematologist, the first step is to complete a 4-year medical degree. After that, you need to be trained in a specialty area during a 2-year residency. Once you have completed residency, those doctors who want to be a hematologist need to finish a 2- or 4-year fellowship. During this period, they need to learn more about a subspecialty of hematology. To get a board certification from the American Board Of Internal Medicine in hematology, doctors first need to be board certified in the area of internal medicine. After that, they have to pass the Hematology Certification Exam that lasts 10 hours. [8]
