7Hematologist Versus Hematopathologist
A hematologist is a board-certified pediatrician or internist who has completed a fellowship in hematology. This position mainly focuses on caring for patients, diagnosing hematologic diseases, and managing these conditions.
A hematopathologist is a board-certified doctor in both clinical and anatomical pathology. Also, they have additional years of experience in hematopathology. In general, hematopathology is the study of conditions related to bone marrow, blood, as well as the tissues and organs that need blood cells for physiologic functions. These include the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, and other lymphoid tissues. The main focus of hematopathologists is to diagnose and manage conditions of the lymphocyte-rich and hematopoietic tissues.[7]
