Antidepressants are commonly used for treating depression and other mental issues. They typically work by balancing the levels of some chemicals in the brain known as neurotransmitters. There are many types of antidepressants, include 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, 5-HT2 receptor antagonists, 5-HT1A receptor antagonists, dopamine reuptake blockers, tetracyclic antidepressants, tricyclic antidepressants or TCAs, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors or SNRIs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs, noradrenergic antagonists, as well as monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOIs.

Among these, SSRIs are the most commonly used mood stabilizers and antidepressants. However, studies have found that they would worsen or lead to Parkinsonism in certain individuals. This effect is also noticed in many people who take SNRIs for treating fibromyalgia, ADHD, major depressive disorder, and other mental problems. [6]
