While phosphorus can be naturally found in many foods, several processed products also provide large amounts of this mineral from additives. In general, most phosphate additives are absorbable and could deliver from 0.4 to 1 g of additional phosphorus on a daily basis. Some common phosphate-added foods include cola drinks, baked goods, processed meats, convenience foods, and fast food. To know whether processed or prepared products contain phosphorus, you can simply check the list of ingredients for the term “phosphate.” It is important to know that consume these foods too much can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
