2Anatomy of the Duodenum
The duodenum is the shortest segment of the intestine with a horseshoe or C shape. Located right below the stomach, it measures between 8 and 10 inches. The organ can be divided into four parts. Each of these comes with a different shape and anatomy to perform a different function. Similarly, the lining consists of four layers with various functions. The duodenum surrounds the pancreas, which produces pancreatic enzymes for this part to aid in digestion. In addition, the duodenum is connected with the liver through the hepatoduodenal ligament. Via this structure, it receives bile, which is mixed with chyme to digest food. [2]
