Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy – What You Need to Know

3High Tone Problems

When muscles have high tone, they are more restricted and tighter than usual. This would lead to pain when you stretch or relax the muscle during a gynecological exam or sexual intercourse. Pelvic floor physical therapy may help with the following high tone problems:

– Vulvodynia: This condition is characterized by discomfort and pain in the vulva, typically due to dysfunctional and tight muscles in the pelvic floor

– Dyspareunia, characterized by pain caused by vaginal penetration during sexual intercourse

– Vaginismus, which causes involuntary, uncontrolled muscle spasms in the vagina

– Pelvic floor myofascial pain: This condition causes chronic pain resulting from tighter muscles in the pelvic floor [4]
