6Eating More Nutritious Foods
There is currently no special diet for people with multiple sclerosis. However, an overall balanced and healthy plan may ensure the body can get sufficient nutrients and energy to deal with the symptoms and stay sharp. Ideally, those who have multiple sclerosis should focus more on omega-3 fatty acids, lean protein, veggies, and fruits. It is also very important to consume enough fiber to prevent constipation, which is a common health issue in multiple sclerosis. Good sources of fiber include lentils, beans, whole grains, veggies, and fruits. You can also take fiber supplements if you cannot take it from the diet. At the same time, make sure to drink enough water to avoid worsening constipation. If multiple sclerosis affects the sense of taste, you can try adding citrus juices, hot sauce, spices or herbs in the diet to boost the flavor. Also, warm foods are better as their flavors may be stronger than cold foods. [5]
