If antimalarials, NSAIDs, and other medication fail to provide satisfactory relief from symptoms of lupus, doctors may prescribe Benlysta (belimumab) by either infusion or injection. The drug lowers the antibodies or the autoantibodies’ level that aims at the cells and tissues of the body.
For the past 50 years, Benlysta (belimumab) is the first drug to be approved for treating systemic lupus erythematosus and has shown several positive results in avoiding severe flares of this health conditions and limit the use of prednisone. It is mostly administered by infusion.
Another promising treatment is Anifrolumab, which is being trialed clinically. It is opined that this treatment may not work for all patients, but it’s good always to have another option available.
