8Undergo Surgery
When medications are not effective in preventing seizures, minimally invasive surgery can be an option for some people with epilepsy. There are currently two options available:
– Laser ablation: This surgery targets specific regions in the brain with laser, which creates heat or thermal energy to kill the cells that cause seizures. During this procedure, an MRI scan is used to make sure the laser targets the right region. You may leave the hospital after 1 or 2 days.
– Responsive Neurostimulator insertion: The main goal of this surgery is to remove brain cells that cause seizures. It may cure epilepsy, but does not work for everyone. [8]
