7Associated Conditions with Monocytes
Too low or high levels of monocytes might indicate the presence of certain conditions and health issues, such as autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, organ injuries, shock, or microbial infection. A complete blood count can help measure your blood composition to show the percentage of monocytes in the total white blood cells.
– Too high monocyte levels: A possible cause might be an infection caused by virus, fungus, or bacteria. Also, it might be triggered by stress. In some cases, there might be an issue with the production of blood cells, especially in some forms of leukemia.
– Too low monocyte levels: Chemotherapy is the most common cause as it might reduce the overall level of white blood cells. [7]
