7Canned Soups
Similar to fast foods and processed foods, canned soups contain a lot of added sugar, processed oil, and potassium. All of these components are linked to a higher risk of depression and anxiety. Even worse, they are packed in plastic containers or canned liners that may contain BPA. Studies have shown that this chemical may change genetic components in certain brain areas and reduce the levels of mood-stabilizing neurotransmitters in the body. This would worsen the symptoms of anxiety and affect overall mental health. [9]
Soy Products
Soy and many soy products are nutritious foods to have in the diet. They can be even the main source of protein for vegans and vegetarians. However, be careful with soy sauce and similar products as they may contain a lot of gluten, which would worsen symptoms of anxiety and depression. Soy also contains a high amount of copper, which is related to certain anxious behaviors. Fermented soy products, such as miso and tempeh may contain histamines due to the fermentation process. This chemical may affect some mood-stabilizing neurotransmitters in the brain and affect your anxiety. [10]
