Aromasin (Exemestane) – Uses, Dosage, Side Effects and More

9Possible Interactions with Aromasin

Aromasin may interact with certain supplements, and other medications or drugs. These include:

– Estrogen-containing medications for birth control and hormone replacement theerapy. These may include ethinyl estradiol, norethindrone, drospirenone birth control, ethinyl estradiol, and estradiol. These drugs would affect the effectiveness of aromasin.

– CYP3A4 inducers, such as phynytoin, rifampicin, primidone, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, enzalutamide, and mitotane. CYP3A4 is a type of protein that can break down aromasin and keep this substance in a proper level in the body. Taking these medications would make this protein more active, thus breaking down more aromasin than usual. This subsequently reduces the effectiveness of aromasin treatment.

– Supplements and herbs, such as Asian ginseng and St. John’s wort, are a form of CYP3A4 intruder. Therefore, they would reduce the aromasin level in the body. [9]
