The alignment of the lunge is very important. You should create a right angle with the front leg and make sure the thigh is parallel to the ground and the knee is placed directly over the ankle. Also, energize the back leg and keep level hips. Many beginners do not have enough depth in the front leg, thus sagging in their back leg.
