It is still unclear what exactly triggers most forms of sarcomas. In many cases, cancerous cells tend to form when mutations or changes occur in the DNA, which is packaged into many separate genes. Each genetic element contains a group of instructions that regulate how the cells divide and grow. A mutation might lead to uncontrollable division and growth even when the cells have died. As a result, abnormal cells would build up over time and cause a tumor. In more advanced cases, these growths could break away and move to other body parts.
