The exact causes of Parkinson’s plus syndrome are still not clear. Scientists believe that it may be attributed to a combination of certain environmental and genetic factors. For instance, some studies have shown that exposure to toxins would increase the risk. Each type of Parkinson’s plus syndrome is also characterized by specific changes in the body:
– Lewy body dementia: This condition occurred when protein deposits called Lewy bodies to appear in the brain
– Cortical-basal ganglionic degeneration: This type causes an accumulation of tau in the brain cells
– Progressive supranuclear palsy: Proteins build up in the brain cells causing them to break down and die over time
– Multiple system atrophy: Proteins accumulate in the brain cells that control the central nervous system [7]
