6How to Administer FOLFOX
The FOLFOX regimen is administered into the bloodstream, and as such requires tubes that can pass the drugs into the veins. It could be a short, thin tube such as a cannula, inserted into a vein in the arm whenever treatment is required. A central line can also be used, or a PICC line, or a port-a-cath. These plastic tubes are inserted into a large vein of the chest. They can remain in their place till treatment is complete. Treatment is administered as described earlier, with 12 rest days. If you choose to receive treatment at home, you should get a central line. A pump is used to feed into the central line. This pump is usually kept in a small bum bag around the waist. On the second day, you’d have to go back to the hospital to change the pump. [3]
