3Risk Factors for Erosive Osteoarthritis
Erosive osteoarthritis is more prevalent in females who are around 50 years old. Especially, typical osteoarthritis in the knees and hands is much more common in females after menopause. It may be attributed to a reduced production of estrogen. A family history of the condition may increase the risk of developing erosive osteoarthritis as well. It means that you are more likely to have this disease if your parents or siblings have it. Another possible risk factor is the occurrence of typical osteoarthritis. In the general population, it is estimated that around 3 percent of people have erosive osteoarthritis. Nevertheless, the number increases to more than 10 percent in those with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the hands. [4]
