8Chronic Inflammation and Diet
Diet plays an important role in controlling chronic inflammation. Many foods can provide anti-inflammatory effects due to high levels of polyphenols and antioxidants. These include berries, nuts, fatty fish, tomatoes, leafy green vegetables, and olive oil. A Mediterranean diet has been proved to be effective in reducing markers of inflammation. At the same time, you should avoid products that may increase inflammation, such as fried foods, processed foods, refined carbs, and processed meat, such as sausage or hot dogs. You do not have to avoid them completely, but try to consume them in moderation. [9]
