8Treatment Options for CML Relapses
A CML relapse can be treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, a type of target therapy drugs. Nevertheless, your doctor may also suggest a different form or increase the dosages. Some alternatives for a CML relapse include bosutinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, and imatinib. In general, these medications may be quite effective for treating this condition. In case cancerous cells become resistant, especially in the later stage of the disease, a stem cell transplant would be suggested. Another alternative is chemotherapy, which can help reduce the high number of white blood cells in the body. [11]
Treatment Options for CLL Relapses
The first-line treatment for people with CLL is usually a combination of various therapies. These would include chemotherapy, targeted therapy drugs, and monoclonal antibodies (immunothreapy). If a relapse occurs after initial treatment which lasted a couple of years, the same combination would be used again to treat a relapsed CLL. Nevertheless, the doctor may also suggest a different treatment combination. A stem cell transplant can also be a good alternative in some cases. [12]
