Cortisone is a type of hormone that can be medically administered to treat injuries and different types of arthritis like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. A cortisone injection into or near the affected ligament or tendon in the upper arm would help reduce inflammation quickly. Compared to anti-inflammatory drugs, this treatment can have longer and stronger effects. Common options include triamcinolone, dexamethasone, and prednisolone. However, there are several complications that you need to know. These include bleeding, infection, local muscle atrophy, weakened tendon, nerve damage or irritation, and reduced immune function. If cortisone injection does not improve your symptoms, then surgery might be suggested. [12]
