Understanding A1C Levels, Normal Range, and More

6What Happens During a A1C Test?

Below are basic steps during an A1C test:

– The nurse will ask to know which arm you want to use for drawing the blood sample

– The nurse will search a vein in the selected arm and tie a band around this area to push down the blood

– The area is thoroughly cleaned with alcohol

– A fine, small needle is inserted into the vein. There may be a sharp pinch for several seconds.

– Blood is collected into a small tube

– The elastic band is untied while the needle is taken out of the arm

– A tissue or cotton ball is pressed over the vein to stop bleeding before the nurse puts a bandage over it [6]
