7Proteasome Inhibitors
Proteasomes are those enzymes in body cells that are responsible for breaking down and removing unnecessary or damaged proteins. People with relapsed multiple myeloma tend to have a large number of abnormal proteins. In these cases, proteasome inhibitors are effective drugs that can prevent cancerous cells from affecting those proteins. Otherwise, the accumulate of proteins would lead to swelling in different body parts, which might burst open and make you die. Some common proteasome inhibitors include Ixazomib, Carfilzomib, and Bortezomib. [7]
