6Triplet Therapy
In many cases, a three-drug or triplet therapy is suggested for induction. This method is preferred by many doctors and healthcare providers as individual medications in the regimen would provide different effects. Therefore, combining them can target cancerous cells more effectively. Currently, the most commonly used combo of drugs includes lenalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone, a combination also called “RVD.” They belong to different medicine classes with different effects. Dexamethasone is a steroid, bortezomib is a potent proteasome inhibitor, while lenalidomide is a commonly used immunomodulator. Sometimes, lenalidomide can be replaced by cyclophosphamide, which is a chemotherapy agent for those people with kidney issues. [6]
