8Avoid Overeating
The lower sphincter is a ring-like muscle located in the place where your esophagus meets the stomach. It works as a valve and can prevent the acid in your stomach from raising and reaching the esophagus. This part will naturally open when you vomit, belch, or swallow. In those people with heartburn, this muscle can be dysfunctional or weakened. Also, acid reflux tends to happen when there this muscle is suffering from too much pressure, which causes acid to squeeze. Since it often takes place after a large meal, it is advisable to avoid overeating to alleviate heartburn symptoms. Ideally, you should divide your daily diet into 4 or 5 small sections with proper portions to get the best results. [8]
