6Other Causes
Other possible causes of vertigo include ear surgery, a head injury, migraine headaches, syphilis, otosclerosis, shingles around or in the ear, ataxia, a transient ischemic attack or a stroke, multiple sclerosis, acoustic neuroma, cerebellar as well as brain stem disease. In some cases, the use of some medications and bed rest for an extended period of time would cause vertigo as well.
While vertigo is not hereditary, it is a common sign of different syndromes and conditions. Some of these tend to run in families and involve particular genetic factors. If vertigo keeps occurring, a genetic or hereditary component would be the possible cause. To make a precise diagnosis, a doctor needs to ask some questions about your family medical history.
