As a person gets older, their connective tissue becomes less elastic and weaker over time. As stated in the introduction, if someone is older than 50 then their risk for hemorrhoids increases significantly. Lindsey Konkel [7] notes the age range of 45 to 65 being the most common time period for hemorrhoids in adults. Approximately 1 million Americans, 4 percent of the adult population, have hemorrhoids.
These changes with aging make it easier for things like straining, sitting on the toilet for long periods, etc. to cause hemorrhoids to occur.
