During pregnancy, it is common for women to have hemorrhoids. This is due to several factors, including constipation and factors causing increased pressure. Blood vessels become enlarged during pregnancy and this along with abdominal pressure from a growing fetus or standing for period’s increases pressure on those enlarged vessels in the anus and rectum. The American Pregnancy Association [5] states hemorrhoids are most likely to happen during the third trimester due to the fetus being larger in size thus causing the most pressure. One article [6] notes an estimate of 25-35% of pregnant women develop hemorrhoids. Some areas even have statistics as high as 85%, specifically notated to be in the third trimester.
