5Risk Factors
As said above, kids and teens with a fatty acid oxidation disorder are at high risk of developing Reye’s syndrome. Some screening tests can find out whether they have the disorder. In some cases, the condition can be a metabolic issue exposed by a virus. Most cases are reported in children, especially between 4 and 12 years old. It is also more likely to occur in the late fall or winter season. Most children with this condition tend to have a history of viral infection, such as rotavirus, common cold, chickenpox, or flu.[5]
