6Signs and Symptoms of Papular Eczema in People of Color
Papular eczema is more common in people of color, mainly Black and Asian communities. In addition, individuals with dark skin tones tend to experience follicular accentuation at the same time with papular eczema, in comparison with light-skinned people. Follicular accentuation is a disease that leads to inflamed hair follicles. Typical symptoms include a rash that looks like goosebumps, swelling or redness around the rash, hairs standing up on end, and warmness on the skin. Scientists have found a combination of several factors that contribute to the higher risk and outcome of these diseases in people of color, including access to treatment, as well as eczema’s pathology and epidemiology.
