7Last Stages of Multiple Sclerosis
In the last stages of multiple sclerosis, symptoms are relatively similar to those in the previous stages. However, they tend to become more severely disabling and happen at the same time. Typical problems may include extreme mobility limitation, emotional swings, depression, cognitive issues, breathing problems, speaking and swallowing issues, pain caused by muscle spasms and nerve damage, as well as bowel and bladder issues. As a result, patients typically rely on a nurse or family members to help with medical and personal needs.
In spite of these debilitating symptoms, multiple sclerosis is not a fatal condition. If the patients become life-threatening, it may result from other possible complications, such as a lung infection or a urinary tract infection. Studies have also suggested that having multiple sclerosis with other common health issues, such as depression, diabetes, and heart disease, would increase the risks of premature death. That’s why it is very important to get proper treatments for other health issues when you have multiple sclerosis. [7]
