6Scalp Psoriasis and Nail Psoriasis
Scalp psoriasis does not only affect the scalp. Symptoms may extend to surrounding areas, such as ears, face, and neck. This form tends to occur in those with plaque psoriasis and would lead to severe dandruff. You may feel very itchy and painful around the hairline. This would affect your hair hygiene and routine. Avoid scratching excessively to prevent scalp infections and hair loss. Some treatment options for this form of psoriasis include tar preparations, steroid lotions, medicated shampoos, topical vitamin D, biologics, light therapy, and some oral medications. [6]
Nail psoriasis is not actually an official form of psoriasis. Instead, it is a manifestation of the disease. People usually mistake it with other nail and fungal infections. Typical symptoms include discolored nails, grooves, nail pitting, colored skin patches under the nail, thickened nail skin, and crumble or loosen nails. In worse cases, the nail may even fall off. There is currently no cure for nail psoriasis, but certain treatment options many help improve the symptoms. [7]
