6Leukemia Diagnosis
A doctor may start diagnosing leukemia with a physical exam. They will look for physical symptoms, such as enlarged spleen and liver, swollen lymph nodes, or pale skin called by anemia. Next, a blood test may be done to determine whether you have abnormal levels of blood cells. This procedure can also detect leukemia cells in the blood. In some cases, the doctor may do a bone marrow test by removing a bone marrow sample from the hipbone with a thin, long needle. The sample is further analyzed in the lab to look for cancerous cells.
