5Symptoms
There are 7 major symptoms of Korsakoff syndrome, including apathy or a quick loss of interests, lack of insight, minimal content in conservations, confabulation, fixation amnesia or the loss of immediate memory, retrograde amnesia, and anterograde amnesia. More specifically, people with this condition tend to have long-term memory gaps, inability to recall recent events and acquiring new information. Memory problems might be significantly serious while other social and thinking skills can be quite unaffected. For instance, they would have a coherent conversation but quickly forget the content after a few hours. In these cases, they could make up the information that they cannot recall. Keep in mind that they are not trying to lie, but actually believe in their explanations. Researchers have not understood the underlying mechanism and association between Korsakoff syndrome and these symptoms. [5]
