7Intestinal Obstruction
The most common complication of Crohn’s disease is an obstruction in the intestine. It typically occurs as a result of scar tissue accumulating and narrowing an area of the colon. This makes it more challenging for the stools to pass through. Strictures are typically not considered to be fatal by most doctors. Nevertheless, a narrower passage would result in a perforation or tear in the colon, which can be fatal. Therefore, any types of intestinal obstruction should be treated with immediate surgery.
